ASURGARH, THE DEMON FORT

     Asuragarh, means Asura (Demons)& Garh (Fort) which indicates once up on  a time it was demos kindgom.It located in bank of sandel river near narla in kalahandi district of Odisha state.

Asurgarh Fort

According to History in 500 BC  there was inhabited by urbanised and civilised community and that time it use to be both political & cultural hub. According locals peoples  that time there was a 'NAGA vanshi' king named 'Gosingha Daity' ruled in this place.

Fort East and Main Entrance


The fort has four entrance and every entrance has a goddes deity. East direction was the main entrance to the place.West part situated river sandel.North part way to farming field and a short diversion path of river sandel also touch this part in which a small dam like arrangement situated, from which water provided to irrigate to farming field. South direction situated a big waterbody named Asurgarh sagar, which was also create by ancieant times king.

A small pond named Radhasagar also situated in south-east corner of the fort in which thats times used by King family or mostly queen of the kingdome.

Sandel River flows near to Fort

That time civilised people also do business using waterway with coastal odisha's kingdome. They use'Tel river' as waterway and river bank near belgaon use as port for goods transportation.

There also some mistrious spot near to asurgarh fort.

According to local old citizian there was a natural water tunnel which connect sandel river to asurgarh sagar and rupra sagar under ground. 

The entrance point of water tunnel known as 'Tunk doro' which situeted near just below near to railway bridge and now it fill up with sand.


How To Reach Here

It situated 35 km from district headquarter Bhawanipatna and 360 km from State capital Bhubaneswar.
State Highway 6A connect Bhawanipatna to Bhubaneswar via Narla. From Narla it's distance only 3 km through MDR 116.

Raipur / Jharsuguda  - Vizianagaram Railway line of East Coast Railway Passes near to Asurgarh Fort.
Nearest Big station Kesinga in which all passing train through this route take 1-2 minutes halt. It situated 30 km from Asurgarh. And Nearest Railway station Rupra Road & Narla Road which distance 3 km & 5 km respectively from the spot.
Nearest Airport RAIPUR, VISAKHAPATNAM & BHUBANESWAR.
